They can happily give you no-obligation advice and all the information you'll ever need to know about your new city. However, if you are lucky enough to be considering a move here, we recommend getting in touch with a local gay realtor. So, please, support them.Īre you relocating? This guide will help travelers discover the queerer side of the city. Thankfully, all is not lost – and some incredible individuals continue to work tirelessly to keep the queer scene in Boston alive. Yes, we are welcome everywhere – but have we lost something in the process? And with such a regressive presidency – can we really let these sacred spaces disappear? Today in Boston, even saying “gay bar” as a somewhat loose term, as many of the most famous institutions of the scene have closed their doors – and those that persist rely on a more mixed crowd. We asked for inclusion and acceptance, and for the most part, we got it – at the cost of our queer nightlife spaces as singles in Boston has moved online, and married gay couples into the suburbs. Blazing ahead of the nation with legal rights and protections for the LGBT community has had its side effects - and today, the gay scene of Boston is a shell of its former self. They have block parties frequently. Not only this, but Boston is the hometown of the Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD). Cover charge is usually after a certain time, and can be 5 to 20+. Mix of music types, hip hop, top 40, etc. Lots of straight folks too who like the music and dance scene. Attracts people from the local colleges, visitors, and locals. Diverse crowd, but much younger than other bars/clubs. Two bars on either side of the club, dance floor in the middle, and dance stage. There's a large patio out back with a bar if you need to take a break from the music, dancing, and fun. Sometimes have a cover charge of 5 or 10 dollars.Įgo - 18+ age larger club type. Decent sized bar, sometimes have themes or events, mostly in the leather/bear scene. People are very friendly! More of a local scene. I always found it easy to meet people and talk to new friends. Used to have bar events, like karaoke and trivia on weeknights. Haven't been here for years, but from my perspectives it is mostly a local crowd. Close by to the other gay bars/clubs, but not in the "mix." The other bars/clubs on this list are all within a few blocks of each other, with Mirabar a bit away. Mirabar - Larger bar space with sunken dance floor. Often have a 5 to 10 dollar cover charge on typical nights, could go up to 20+ for special events, like concernts/block parties. Has a lively dance floor, performance stage, and areas to chill/stand off to the side. Often have theme nights, drag shows, and outdoor block parties. They often have top 40 pop music playing from 80s to present day. Easier to meet people here, in my opinion.ĭark Lady - Attached to Alley Cat.

No back patio, but has a front sidewalk area that functions like a patio. Doesn't get too too crowded, like the Stable. More of a local vibe, but also many visitors. Visitors to the city tend to hit this place up.Īlley Cat - Similar bar set up to Stable. Can get a bit crowded on weekends at the 10pm-12pm times. Many folks start their nights here and then venture out. Seems to get busy with after dinner on weekends and after work crowd on weekdays. There is an awesome patio out back with chairs and tables. Stable - Bar set up is a long and narrow. Many clubs and bars that aren't explicity gay attract many LGBTQ+ patrons. All within a few blocks of each other (other than one, which is still walkable, but a little out of the way). Downtown is where all the gay bars/clubs are located.

Been living in and around Providence for the past 15ish year and been haunting the gay bars/clubs in Providence since I was a little twink.
